"I purchased my first lavender sachet in St. Paul de Vence while on my initial trip to France in 1978,” remembers Cynthia. For the next 18 years, Cynthia spent much of her time working in Europe – and developing a true respect for aromatherapy. At the same time that she discovered lavender, she also started traveling to the Far East. “In Hong Kong at the Jade Market, I discovered marvelous carved jade pieces and began collecting them. During subsequent visits I always found myself back at the Jade Market adding to my collection. It was there that I learned the meanings of the various carvings as well as their healing legends."
Cynthia recalls.
Today, Cynthia designs exquisite handmade pillows and sachets. They are created from luxurious fabrics, then filled with lavender and bound with sumptuous ribbons. Finally, they are adorned with beautiful carved jade and other semi-precious and precious stones selected from her personal collection.
"I choose to work with lavender because it has many beneficial qualities. It is reviving, it promotes restful sleep, it soothes, and it helps maintain one's sense of well-being," says Cynthia. "These qualities combined with silks and striking - as well as meaningful - stones make a beautiful Jewel for the Home!"
The Cynthia Alexander collection also includes a stunning line of jewelry, created with pearls, semi-precious and precious stones.
In 1998 Cynthia’s designs first appeared in Martha’s Vineyard. The next step, which began in 1999, was to exhibit her pillows and jewelry at Arts and Crafts shows throughout Fairfield County, Connecticut, Newport, Rhode Island, New York and New Jersey, and this continues to this day. Ever expanding, Cynthia Alexander designs can now be found throughout the United States and in London, England.
